When you walk into my bedroom, turn right and the first thing you see is a collage of my journalism stories. A culinary teacher whose passion brought her back full circle, a pole vaulter who just kept going, students sharing their stories of struggles and perseverance with substance use disorders, students outcrying against discrimination, and more, all pasted together in a homemade hodgepodge of nostalgia, reminiscence, unparalleled passion, love, and family.
Keep walking and look at the top shelf. You’ll see a carefully laid, chronologically organized collection of school newspaper issues dating back from my years as a Staff member to now Editor-in-Chief. I have letters from co-editors folded up tightly in time capsules and a voice memo app stored with hours of unforgettable conversations.
For all of the marks that journalism has left on me — bedroom walls, shelves, identity, and all — this portfolio aims to tell the story of the marks I have left on it, a journey of finding purpose and sharing it. All handcrafted.
